AC3 Filter is a free audio decoder and process filter, which works in a high quality way and produces high quality results. It is a decoder filter to play AVI files with audio in AC3 or DTS format, and multichannel DVDs. It also offers SPDIF support.

With this codec you can listen to videos that are generated with AC3-encoded surround sound. AC3 Filter can also process virtually any audio track, and it has a multitude of options to allow you to make almost any adjustments you like.

AC3 Filter can take any audio source and change it to 6 channels. It can also do the reverse and take a multi-channel source and convert it to any number of channels to match the number of speakers you have or their configuration. Its filters can handle multi-channel and digital (SPDIF) outputs.

AC3 Filter allows you to configure it for Dolby ProLogic and Dolby Surround, apply a time shift to sychronize the audio and video, decrease the dynamic range for night time viewing, and if you have speakers at different distances, you can modify the time delay to adjust for that. AC3 Filter also has support for USB sound cards and you can listen to multi-channel audio Cds too.
